The Indian Community Centre

The new Indian Community Centre in Nottingham is an extension and refurbishment of a 1920's former printing works. The building had suffered from substantial vandalism and neglect before the Indian Community Centre Association in Nottingham acquired the building and commenced the phased refurbishment and extension to form their new centre.

The Indian Community in Nottingham required new larger premises to accommodate the growing community. The centre provides an extensive range of community services, including day-care and Welfare services, a daily meals service, a resource centre, and a social and entertainment centre.

Williams-Architects were tasked with the design and management of works, involving an extension for the stage, changing and toilet facilities and the new kitchen facility.  We also undertook the refurbishment of the ground and part first floor and entrance (including new specialist joinery work), together with interior design schemes for the main function hall and bar areas. 

The work spanned over several years in order to carefully manage the limited budget available.  The handover was celebrated with a blessing ceremony and celebration on 5th May 2008.
