Portland Food Court, University of Nottingham Client: University of Nottingham Contract Value: c£1.2m Location: Nottingham Progress: Completed 2011 |
Williams-Architects were commissioned to design and deliver a new food experience for the top floor of the historic Portland Building at the University of Nottingham. Working alongside food consultants GWP, we were challenged with creating individual outlets for five separate food offers, including Starbucks and Man's Gourmet, by converting the old ballroom space and providing the whole top floor with a much needed face lift. This project has been particularly satisfying for us, as we have been able to move from a concept scheme through to a finished project in just a few months to ensure the project could be built over the summer break. The concept for the pods was simple. The organically shaped counters would appear to 'grow' out of the beautifully refurbished maple floor and wrap themselves around the cooking and servery elements. Our design and careful selection of materials have assisted in keeping the facility as bright, clean and welcoming today as the day it opened, providing the University of Nottingham with a great place to meet and eat. |
