Portland Foodcourts, The University of NottinghamWilliams-Architects were commissioned to design and deliver a new food experience for the top floor of the historic Portland Building at the University of Nottingham. Working alongside food consultants GWP, we were challenged with creating individual outlets for five separate food offers, converting the old ballroom space and providing the whole top floor with a much needed facelift. Concept to CompletionThis project has been particularly satisfying for us, as we have been able to move from a concept scheme through to a finished project in just a few months. The concept for the pods was simple. The organically shaped counters would appear to 'grow' out of the beautifully refurbished maple floor and wrap themselves around the cooking and servery elements. Team LiaisonWorking effectively with a spread of five distinct clients, we spent a great deal of time talking to the teams of each food outlet, including Starbucks and Man's Gourmet, to ensure all their needs were met. Due to the short construction period over the summer holiday, our close liaison with the University of Nottingham staff and the contractor, particularly on site during the build, proved invaluable in ensuring the project was delivered within time and budget targets. Outstanding Success
During our most recent visits to the Portland Food Court it has been clear just how popular the new dining facility has become with students and staff.
Our design and careful selection of materials have assisted in keeping the facility as bright, clean and welcoming today as the day it opened, providing the University of Nottingham with a great place to meet and eat. In the Press |
