New Visitor Centre, Wensleydale Creamery

Williams-Architects were tasked with producing the design for an extension to the existing visitor centre at the Wensleydale Creamery, located just outside the market town of Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

With visitors numbers increasing the Creamery needed to expand its visitor centre and cheeshop, in order to showcase the Creamery's wide range of produce.

This required the re-planning, and relocation, of several of the existing functions.  Careful planning of the works ensured that disruption during the peak season was minimised.

Designing within The Yorkshire Dales National Park

Due to the location of the site within the boundaries of the Yorkshire Dales National Park local, traditional materials were sourced to compliment the surroundings.

The design of the new extension incorporates these traditional materials in a contemporary style, which provides a grounded - yet light and airy - feel and incorporates a ‘green’ sedum roof to soften the visual impact of the low level roof and assist in controlling rainwater run off.
